The Pulsar N160 4V packs the most powerful engine and Google Maps mirroring, but the Apache and Xtreme have their own advantages.
Bajaj Auto has recently added a fourth valve to the Pulsar N160 and made other modern-day additions to the motorcycle. Here, we compare the three sporty 160cc motorcycles following the launch of the new Pulsar N160, which now faces competition from both the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Hero Xtreme 160R 4V.
Engine: Pulsar wins the race of power
The new Pulsar N160 4V gets a 164.5cc oil-cooled, four-valve engine that offers the highest power among all three sporty motorcycles, delivering 18.24bhp.
Although the Apache generates slightly higher torque, it is the Pulsar that excels in terms of raw power output. The Xtreme 160R 4V has the least power of the three.
Weight, size and equipment
The Pulsar happens to be the heaviest motorcycle at 151kg, but the Apache gains an advantage by virtue of its lighter kerb weight.
All three motorcycles feature 17-inch alloy wheels, 37mm telescopic forks and single-shock rear suspension. The Pulsar comes equipped with the largest front disc at 300mm and also provides the lowest 795mm seat height, whereas the Apache has the highest ground clearance.
Key Features: Bajaj goes big with Google Maps
Technology-wise, the most impressive thing about the new Pulsar is its 5-inch TFT screen along with Google Maps mirroring. It is the first motorcycle in the 160cc class to have this feature.
The Apache also gets a TFT screen, but its navigation system only features turn-by-turn directions. The Xtreme 160R 4V comes with a colour LCD and turn-by-turn navigation system.
Apart from that, the Pulsar and Apache both have a traction control system, but the Xtreme does not have it. On the other hand, Hero offers cruise control, making it unique.
The Apache still remains the cheapest among the three, whereas the Pulsar continues to be the costliest of all three. Nevertheless, Bajaj’s addition of extra features, along with higher power and Google Maps capability, may well justify its added cost.
Conclusion
As far as features on paper go, the Pulsar N160 4V definitely makes a good case, with the best engine, electronic throttle, traction control and the unique Google Maps mirroring technology available for the first time in the segment.
