Tata Curvv EV expert review.
What is the Tata Curvv.ev?
It is the first budget-friendly coupe-style SUV on sale in India. It shares the front styling and interior parts with the Nexon EV till the B-pillar. The SUV comes with a 55kWh battery pack, which gives it a real-world range of 400km-425km. It offers class-leading boot space and several segment-first tech features.
Who Should Buy the Tata Curvv.ev?
The unique selling point of the Curvv is its coupe-SUV design, which helps it stand out in a segment full of conventional-looking SUVs like the Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV and Mahindra XUV400.
From its sleek LED headlights to its Urus-inspired rear styling, the Curvv grabs attention instantly. This makes the Curvv a perfect lifestyle vehicle for buyers who do not want to sacrifice the practicality of an SUV — space, high ground clearance and boot space — while still standing out with coupe styling.
How Practical Are the Tata Curvv.ev Interiors?
This is where buyers looking for a unique interior experience might find things a little less special. Not because the Curvv interiors do not look modern, but because they feel slightly watered down compared to the radical exterior styling. Also, the fact that the interiors are largely shared with the Nexon does not help matters much.
A triple-screen setup would have made the cabin feel more futuristic. Having said that, the interiors still feel modern and well-equipped. The front-row seating is spacious, and even the passenger seat gets height adjustment, which is a plus.
One noticeable omission is the lack of front cup holders. This feels odd because cup holders have become a standard feature across most car segments today.
Moving to the rear seat, the Curvv offers decent space despite the sharply sloping roofline. Entry into the back seat might feel slightly awkward, but once inside, passengers get decent headroom and legroom for an average-height Indian adult.
A common issue in EVs is poor under-thigh support due to the raised floor created by the battery pack. Tata has addressed this to some extent by offering reclining rear seats, which make long journeys more comfortable.
Speaking of long journeys, the Curvv offers a segment-leading boot space of 500 litres compared to its rivals. This is especially impressive because the Nexon EV, despite its boxy styling, only offers 350 litres of boot space.
How Good Is the Tata Curvv.ev Infotainment?
The infotainment system is now one of the most important features in modern cars. Not only does it play music, but it also displays vehicle diagnostics and connected car features.
The 12.3-inch screen is crisp and comes with Tata’s homegrown Arcade.ev system, which behaves much like a smartphone with support for apps, movie playback, music streaming and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
The 9-speaker Harman sound system further enhances the experience by fine-tuning the sound depending on whether you are listening to music on the move or watching a movie while charging.
Tata Curvv.ev Range, Battery & Performance
The Curvv.ev uses a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), a widely used EV motor technology known for smooth performance, strong efficiency and instant torque delivery.
While this may not be as advanced as Hyundai Creta EV’s Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), the PMSM paired with the 55kWh battery pack helps the Curvv achieve an ARAI-claimed range of 502km. In the real world, the Curvv manages a respectable 400km on a single charge.
If you think charging times would be longer with this kind of range, worry not. Using DC fast charging, the Curvv can charge from 10-80 percent in an impressive 40 minutes. That makes the Curvv.ev one of the quickest-charging EVs in its class.
Is the Tata Curvv.ev Fun to Drive?
The Curvv.ev offers a surprisingly engaging driving experience, despite outward appearances suggesting a close link to the Nexon EV. It is, in fact, built on Tata's dedicated electric platform, the acti.ev (Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle) architecture. This ground-up design gives the SUV a crucial edge.
A 50:50 weight distribution is a key benefit of this platform, which effectively manages body roll during cornering and maintains composure over rough surfaces.
On-Road Performance:
Power comes from an electric motor generating 167PS and 215Nm of torque. While these figures might seem modest compared to rivals like the Hyundai Creta N-Line, the advantage of instant torque is the 'magic sauce'. This allows the Curvv.ev to achieve 0-100kmph in a brisk 8.6 seconds—a quick dash that will impress even EV skeptics. The immediate responsiveness makes quick overtakes effortless in any driving scenario.
Coupled with a responsive chassis, the Curvv.ev delivers confident handling, even when fully loaded. During uphill testing with four passengers and luggage, the SUV maintained smooth acceleration on steep inclines and remained composed with minimal body roll when pushed through corners.
Regenerative Braking and Driving Modes:
For drivers prioritizing maximum range, the ECO mode is available, allowing for increased regenerative braking. Although less exhilarating than the City or Sport modes, it still feels more responsive than many Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) rivals. The car features four levels of regenerative braking:
-
Level 0: Regen is completely switched off.
-
Level 3: Offers the most aggressive deceleration, which is useful for city driving.
It is worth noting that unlike some EVs where high regen brings the car to a complete stop, the Curvv.ev still requires the driver to press the brake pedal to fully stop, even at Level 3.
Tata Curvv.ev Safety & ADAS Features
Tata has always prioritised safety, and the Curvv is no different. In the Bharat NCAP crash test, the Curvv received a 5-star safety rating, making it one of the safest cars in the segment.
The Curvv.ev also focuses heavily on active safety and driver assistance features. Its Level-2 ADAS package includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Blind Spot Detection.
The SUV also gets a 360-degree 3D surround-view camera, a camera-based blind spot monitor and radar-based blind spot detection.
Additionally, hill hold assist and hill descent control improve convenience while driving on steep or uneven roads.
Should You Buy the Tata Curvv.ev?
The Tata Curvv.ev makes a strong case for itself. It ticks all the right boxes with spacious interiors, tech-loaded features and performance that matches its sleek exterior styling.
The 400km real-world range and fast-charging capability further add to the SUV’s practicality.
Starting at INR 18.5 lakh, the Curvv.ev delivers style, practicality and performance without major compromises, making it one of the most complete electric SUVs in its segment.

Should you wait for the October refresh?
Wait if you...
- Drive 100+ km daily and need maximum range
- Want AWD for hill stations, rough roads, or all-weather grip
- Want ADAS Level 2 but can't stretch to the Empowered+ trim today
- Are flexible on timeline and don't need delivery in the next 3-4 months
- Prefer the limited Stealth Edition styling
Buy now if you...
- Drive under 80 km daily — current 502 km range is more than enough
- Don't need AWD (most urban buyers don't)
- Want today's pricing — facelift is expected to add ₹1-1.5 L premium
- Need delivery before September 2026
- Want to take advantage of current launch offers and exchange bonuses
Our take: If you're a daily commuter under 80 km and don't need AWD, buy now and save ₹1-1.5 L. If range, AWD, or full ADAS matters and you can wait 5-6 months, the October refresh is worth the patience.
