The Creta DCT has a reputation for failure. Should I avoid it or is it fixed in 2024 models?+
The older 1.4-litre DCT had a known problem. Clutch actuator failures were not isolated incidents — enough owners ran into it that it became a documented concern, and repairs outside the warranty window were hitting Rs. 1 lakh and above. Not the kind of surprise anyone budgets for.
Hyundai addressed this with the 2024 facelift. The 1.4-litre was replaced with a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol paired with a re-engineered gearbox, and early ownership feedback on the new setup has been noticeably cleaner — far fewer complaints about the transmission than what the previous version attracted.
That said, re-engineered does not mean proven over time. The 2024 unit is still relatively new and long-term reliability data is still building up. Given the history of the outgoing engine, taking an extended warranty on the new one is a straightforward decision — it costs relatively little against what a gearbox repair could run you if something does go wrong.

Is the Creta diesel worth it over petrol in 2025, given BS6 Phase 2 service costs?+
For yearly running under 15,000 km, stick to petrol. Diesel adds Rs. 1–1.5 lakh to purchase price and DPF service costs can be higher. Above 20,000 km/year, diesel wins on fuel savings (19–23 km/l vs 11–14 km/l for turbo petrol). The 6-speed manual diesel is the most reliable powertrain in the Creta lineup, per long-term owners.
The Creta feels smaller inside than competitors at same price. Is this a known issue?+
The Creta's rear knee room is slightly less than Kia Seltos or MG Hector at similar price. However, the seat cushion quality, NVH levels, and overall cabin feel premium. If rear passenger comfort for 3 adults is critical, the Seltos or a stretched Alcazar would be better choices. For couples or small families, Creta is perfectly adequate.
Hyundai's service costs seem high. How much should I budget annually for Creta maintenance?+
Expect Rs. 8,000–12,000 for annual service at authorized centers (first 3 years under warranty). After warranty, independent service is 30–40% cheaper. The main cost spike comes at 40,000 km — air filter, spark plugs, and brake fluid — budget Rs. 15,000–20,000 for that service. Avoid mandatory paid accessories at the time of purchase; they're usually overpriced by Rs. 20,000+.
Does the Creta's panoramic sunroof make the car unbearably hot in Indian summers?+
The panoramic sunroof does increase cabin temperature when left open or when sun hits it directly — owners in Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh report this the most. The built-in retractable sunshade helps significantly. With AC on full, the car cools in 3–4 minutes regardless. Rolling down windows momentarily before turning on AC helps clear hot air faster.
