The new Pulsar N160 variants get a more powerful four-valve engine, electronic throttle, four ride modes, bigger front forks and a new TFT console.
Indian auto manufacturer Bajaj Auto has unveiled two new variants of its Pulsar N160 motorcycle range in India. These have been termed the N160 S and N160 SS and cost Rs 1.34 lakh and Rs 1.43 lakh, respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi). The old variant of the bike will continue to be sold alongside the new models.
Both these new bikes come packed with mechanical and technological upgrades, making them much more advanced than their predecessor.
New engine with more power
The most important upgrade is the new 4-valve, 164.5cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine producing 18.5hp at 9,500rpm and 14.5Nm at 8,000rpm.
Another important upgrade is the replacement of the mechanical throttle system with a new electronic throttle body. The E20-compatible engine now works with four riding modes — Road, Rain, Sport and Off-road — giving riders different throttle responses for varying conditions.
Ride modes and Crawl Technology
The electronically controlled throttle of the N160 S and N160 SS now offers Road, Rain, Sport and Off-road ride modes.
The motorcycles also come equipped with Crawl Technology, similar to the one found on KTM motorcycles. It allows the motorcycle to travel at slow speeds in higher gears with minimal clutch usage, which can make slow-speed riding easier.
Furthermore, the top-of-the-range N160 SS also features traction control, putting it ahead of the S variant.
Mechanical upgrades
There have also been some mechanical upgrades for better dynamics. The new variants now have 37mm USD front forks, which replace the earlier 33mm forks, along with the larger 300mm front disc.
The weight, fuel tank capacity, wheelbase, ground clearance and seat height remain the same at 151kg, 14 litres, 1,348mm, 165mm and 795mm, respectively.
New TFT console for N160 SS
Technology forms another important factor distinguishing both versions of the N160. While the N160 S still uses an LCD instrument console, the N160 SS becomes the first Bajaj motorcycle to get a 5-inch TFT screen with Google Maps mirroring.
The new SS variant also comes with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity and has adjustable levers.
Both bikes will be available in Atlantic Blue, Pearl Metallic White and Brooklyn Black.
The new Bajaj Pulsar N160 S and SS variants bring a more powerful engine, electronic throttle, riding modes, upgraded suspension and additional connectivity features to the Pulsar N160 range. With the existing variant continuing alongside them, Bajaj now offers buyers more choice depending on how much technology and equipment they want.
