Is the Nexon actually as safe as Tata claims, or is the 5-star NCAP rating just marketing?+
The 5-star Global NCAP rating on the Nexon is independently verified — it goes through the same crash testing process as any other vehicle evaluated by the organisation, with no manufacturer influence on the outcome. The body shell has consistently held up well in impact tests, which is reflected in both the score and real-world feedback from owners. All variants come equipped with 6 airbags as standard, which is still relatively rare in this price segment. For anyone buying under Rs. 15 lakh, the Nexon remains one of the stronger choices purely from a safety standpoint.
Does the Nexon sunroof leak or cause problems in monsoon? Many friends warned me.+
Sunroof leaks on the Nexon are uncommon when basic maintenance is followed. The key habit is clearing the 4 drainage holes once every 6 months — blocked channels are the most common reason water enters the cabin. One thing to keep in mind: the panoramic glass does let in heat, so using the built-in sunshade during summer months makes a noticeable difference. Models manufactured after 2022 come with better seal quality, and complaints around leaking have dropped significantly since then.
How does the Nexon's real-world mileage compare to ARAI? I keep hearing it's much lower.+
Yes, expect 20–25% less than ARAI. Petrol AMT gives 9–11 km/l in city and 13–15 km/l on highway. Diesel does better: 14–16 km/l mixed, 19–22 km/l highway. The MID (multi-information display) consistently overstates mileage by ~15%. Always calculate using tank-full method for accurate numbers.
