Updated Brezza could switch to a 1.2-litre or 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine for lower taxes and better pricing.

The upcoming 2026 Maruti Suzuki Brezza has been spotted once again, this time undergoing emission testing on the Western Peripheral Expressway near Delhi. This latest sighting has fuelled rumours that the Japanese automaker could introduce a smaller-capacity petrol engine with the updated Brezza.
What do the latest spy images reveal about the Brezza facelift?
Unlike earlier spy shots that hinted mainly at cosmetic changes, the latest test mule was seen carrying emission testing equipment. This suggests that Maruti Suzuki is calibrating a new engine for the Brezza facelift.
Currently, the Brezza is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine offered in both petrol and CNG forms. However, this engine exceeds the 1.2-litre threshold required for lower B-segment registration taxes in India.
According to industry rumours, Maruti Suzuki is considering two alternatives — a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and the brand’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine already seen in the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Either of these engines could help the Brezza achieve a more competitive starting price due to lower taxation.
The future of the current 1.5-litre engine remains uncertain if the smaller engines are introduced. Additionally, rumours suggest that the CNG variant could feature an underbody fuel tank setup.
Brezza facelift: Styling updates spotted

The spy images indicate that the facelifted Brezza will receive styling revisions rather than a complete redesign. The upper grille appears sleeker than before, while the front bumper and triangular-shaped fog lamp housings have been redesigned. A new skid plate and a thick silver strip at the front further enhance the SUV’s muscular appearance.
The prototype was also seen with 16-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the SUV appears largely similar to the current model. One notable detail is the continued use of rear drum brakes.
Conclusion
The facelifted Maruti Suzuki Brezza is expected to launch by the third quarter of this financial year and will rival models such as the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV 3XO. Prices could also see a slight reduction if the SUV adopts a smaller engine while continuing to remain under four metres in length.
