Tata Sierra EV (75 kWh) vs Mahindra BE 6 (79 kWh): Price and Specs Compared

A comparison between two of India’s premier high-capacity electric vehicles.

The upper tier of India’s electric mid-size SUV segment offers two credible options: the Tata Sierra EV (75 kWh) and the Mahindra BE 6 (79 kWh). Tata’s Sierra EV is a rugged, spacious SUV with both rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, starting at ₹22.19 lakh. The Mahindra BE 6, in contrast, is a dedicated born-electric coupe SUV constructed on the INGLO platform, priced from ₹25.20 lakh.

Here, we have taken a closer look at whether you want the upright family cabin and dual-motor AWD traction of the Sierra EV, or the 175-180 kW ultra-fast DC charging and futuristic styling of the BE 6. This piece compares the powertrains fitted across these two vehicles, the technological features they come bundled with and the clear difference in their off-road capability and grand touring credentials.

Dimensions, Stance and Cargo Practicality

The Tata Sierra EV has 622 litres of rear boot space alongside a 55-litre frunk, delivering 177 litres more combined cargo capacity than the Mahindra BE 6.

The Tata Sierra EV has an upright SUV body, standing about 123 mm taller than the BE 6. This vertical glasshouse design offers high passenger headroom and large window apertures. And with 205 mm of ground clearance, it handles rough rural terrain and high water obstacles with little risk to its underbody.

The Mahindra BE 6 has more of an aerodynamic coupe design. Built on the INGLO skateboard architecture, it measures 4,371 mm in length and 1,907 mm in width, i.e., longer and wider than the Sierra EV. The 2,775 mm wheelbase also provides greater rear legroom.

While the Sierra EV offers a relatively bigger cargo area and higher headroom, the BE 6’s cabin remains wider and overall more accommodating for its occupants.

Powertrain: Dual-Motor AWD vs High-Output RWD

The Sierra EV Empowered AWD A 75 features a dual-motor setup generating 504 Nm of torque and a 5.8-second 0 to 100 kmph sprint. Meanwhile, the BE 6 79 kWh delivers 282 bhp through a dedicated high-performance rear-wheel-drive system.

Mahindra offers the BE 6 79 kWh only with a rear-mounted 3-in-1 electric powertrain producing 210 kW (282 bhp) and 380 Nm of torque. Its suspension uses semi-active Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) with MTV-CL valving paired with an independent 5-link rear suspension.

Overall, even though the Sierra EV AWD provides all-weather off-road security, the BE 6 provides more focused rear-wheel-drive chassis engagement.

Charging Architecture, Battery Tech and Energy Export

The Mahindra BE 6 79 kWh supports up to 180 kW DC fast charging to complete a 20 to 80 per cent charge in 20 minutes, while the Sierra EV 75 kWh has 3.3 kVA Vehicle-to-Load and 5.0 kVA Vehicle-to-Vehicle power sharing.
