Range Rover’s first electric SUV gets a 118.5kWh battery, 550hp, 850Nm torque and up to 600km claimed range.
JLR has opened bookings for the new Range Rover Electric in India for a token amount of Rs 10 lakh. Marking the brand’s first fully electric Range Rover, the SUV combines strong performance, luxury and off-road capability with an all-electric powertrain. It will be manufactured at JLR’s Solihull plant in the UK and imported into India via the CBU route.
Range Rover Electric: Battery, Power And Range
The Range Rover Electric is powered by a 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack comprising 344 prismatic cells. The battery supplies power to two electric motors, with each producing 260kW (354 PS), resulting in a combined output of 405kW (550 PS).
The SUV develops 850Nm of torque, making it the most torquey Range Rover model yet. It can accelerate from 0-96kmph in 4.3 seconds, quicker than the 4.5-second time claimed for the mild-hybrid twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8-powered Range Rover.
The claimed WLTP range stands at 600km, while JLR’s own EPA estimate puts the real-world range at around 535km.
800V Architecture And Fast Charging
The electric SUV uses an 800-volt electrical architecture and supports DC fast charging at up to 350kW. JLR claims the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes.
A 10-minute charging session can reportedly add around 220km of range, making the Range Rover Electric better suited to long-distance journeys.
Off-Road Capability Remains Strong
Despite switching from an internal-combustion engine to an electric powertrain, Range Rover has retained the SUV’s off-road credentials. It gets twin-valve active dampers, dual-chamber air springs and rear-axle steering.
The SUV can wade through water up to 900mm deep. Its Integrated Traction Management system is designed to improve traction on slippery surfaces, while the Driveline Dynamics system allows it to tackle inclines of up to 33 degrees and climbs of up to 45 degrees.
The Range Rover Electric weighs 2,885kg and has a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes, lower than the 3.5-tonne capacity of the ICE version.
Familiar Range Rover Design
Visually, the Range Rover Electric remains close to the fifth-generation ICE model. Changes include a more contemporary grille, new alloy wheels and EV-specific underbody revisions.
These updates have helped reduce the drag coefficient by 0.01Cd. JLR claims the improved aerodynamic efficiency can add around 16km of range during highway driving.
The SUV will be available in standard and long-wheelbase versions, with SE, Autobiography, SV, SV Black and SV Ultra trims. A curated First Edition will also be offered, along with a range of bespoke exterior and interior options.
Luxury Interior With EV-Specific Features
The cabin largely retains the familiar Range Rover dashboard, steering wheel, centre console and digital screens. However, the electric SUV gets dedicated features such as an AI-based range predictor and battery health monitor.
Other highlights include a premium audio system, panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats with massage function and multi-zone climate control.
Range Rover Electric India Price And Launch
India-specific pricing has not yet been announced. However, the Range Rover Electric is expected to be priced at around Rs 3.5 crore, ex-showroom.
For reference, the SUV is priced from $138,000 in the US. In India, it will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU), making it the most expensive electric offering in the Range Rover family.
