Hyundai’s new China-focused electric sedan packs 800V charging tech, an AI-powered cabin, and over 600 km driving range

Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled details about its upcoming electric sedan, the Hyundai Ioniq V, through official documents filed with Chinese regulatory authorities. The vehicle is positioned as the first production car under the company’s recently launched Ioniq brand range in China. It features unique styling, high driving range, and AI-powered technology.

It was first unveiled at the Auto China 2026 exhibition held in Beijing, with the Venus concept serving as the preview for the production model. Hyundai Motor Group aims for rapid growth in China and has announced plans to launch 20 models over the next five years.

Powertrain Specifications Revealed

Based on official documents filed with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Ioniq V will be equipped with a single-motor rear-wheel-drive setup. Customers will have two choices in terms of power output. These include a 140 kW motor producing 190 PS and another 168 kW motor producing 228 PS.

The top speed is pegged at 165 km/h. Hyundai hasn’t provided battery pack capacity details but has revealed that the EV will offer a driving range of more than 600 km under the CLTC test cycle.

Performance statistics for the high-performance version are quite comparable to those found on the rear-wheel-drive versions of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Hyundai Ioniq 6 available internationally. Hyundai also intends to launch a dual-motor AWD version in the near future, which will deliver performance levels similar to the 324 PS version offered globally.

Charging Infrastructure

Based on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, the Ioniq V supports 800V charging infrastructure, allowing for ultra-fast charging.

For example, the India-spec Hyundai Ioniq 5 takes just 18 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% using a DC fast charger. Likewise, the Ioniq V is expected to offer similar charging capability.

In addition, Hyundai is also working on launching an EREV version of the EV.

Futuristic Design And High-Tech Cabin

With its unique appeal aimed at Chinese consumers, the Ioniq V follows Hyundai’s latest design philosophy called “The Origin”. The exterior styling is based on a coupé-style body design, incorporating H-shaped lighting and other details including hidden headlights, frameless doors, flush door handles, and aerodynamic alloy wheels.

From the rear, the sedan receives a wide LED light strip, IONIQ emblem, and bumper inserts.

In terms of dimensions, the Ioniq V measures 4,900 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,470 mm in height, while the wheelbase stands at 2,900 mm.

The interior of the Ioniq V features several high-tech elements, including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 cockpit computer, dual-AI large-model support, a 27-inch ultra-thin 4K screen, Cyber Eye HUD, and ambient lighting. Level-2+ autonomous driving assistance will be provided by the Momenta system. Technological partners for the Ioniq V include Qualcomm, CATL, Baidu Wenxin, and Volcano Engine.

India Plan?

As mentioned earlier, this will remain a China-only model. There are currently no plans to launch the Hyundai Ioniq V in India, as electric sedans have not seen significant demand in the market, where buyers continue to prefer SUVs for their commanding driving position.
