BMW F 450 R Revealed: 420cc Twin, 48hp And Four Variants

BMW Motorrad has revealed the new F 450 R roadster, which shares its engine and chassis with the F 450 GS and will be offered in four variants.

BMW Motorrad has revealed the F 450 R, a new street-focused roadster based on the same platform as the F 450 GS. The new motorcycle effectively takes the place of the discontinued G 310 R as BMW’s entry-level roadster, bringing a larger parallel-twin engine and more technology to the segment.

BMW F 450 R: 420cc Twin-Cylinder Engine

The F 450 R uses the same 420cc parallel-twin engine as the F 450 GS. It produces 48hp at 8,750rpm and 43Nm at 6,750rpm. BMW says the engine has been tuned for road use, with 80 percent of its peak torque available from as low as 3,000rpm.

The motorcycle uses a six-speed gearbox, while the chassis is shared with the F 450 GS. It gets a tubular steel frame with the engine acting as a stressed member, along with a 43mm KYB USD fork and KYB monoshock.

BMW F 450 R: Features And Variants

Braking duties are handled by a 310mm front disc with a Brembo four-piston monobloc caliper and a 240mm rear disc. The standard seat height is 790mm, while BMW will offer optional 775mm low and 810mm high seats.

The F 450 R also gets a 6.5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, navigation and music controls as standard. Heated grips are also standard across the range.

Variant Key additions
Base Standard equipment, Cosmic Black colour
Exclusive Bi-directional quickshifter, adjustable Sport suspension
M Sport Dynamic Pro ride mode, additional TFT functions
M Sport + Innovation Package Easy Ride Clutch system

The range-topping M Sport with Innovation Package gets BMW’s Easy Ride Clutch system, which was also introduced on the F 450 GS.

BMW F 450 R India Launch

BMW Motorrad has not yet announced an India launch date or pricing for the F 450 R. However, the F 450 GS made its way to India after its global reveal, and the new roadster is expected to follow.

For reference, the BMW F 450 GS currently starts at Rs 4.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The F 450 R is expected to sit below the GS in BMW’s India line-up if launched here.

With the F 450 R, BMW is expanding its new 420cc platform beyond the adventure-bike segment. Its combination of a twin-cylinder engine, relatively compact roadster format and multiple equipment levels could make it an important model in BMW Motorrad’s entry-level range.
