Should I pick AMT or DCT automatic in Nexon? I do 60% city and 40% highway driving.+
For a 60-40 split between city and highway, the DCT is the better fit.
The AMT gets the job done and the price difference of roughly Rs. 1 to 1.2 lakh is real money. Fuel efficiency is marginally better too. The problem shows up in stop-go city traffic — the characteristic jerk during low-speed gear changes is not something most drivers fully adjust to. It is manageable, but it is there every day.
The DCT shifts cleanly, responds quickly, and on the highway the difference in driving experience is noticeable. For someone covering mixed terrain regularly, that smoothness adds up over time in a way that is hard to put back once you have experienced it.
If the budget is tight and the priority is keeping costs down, the AMT is not a bad choice — it is reliable and the fuel saving over time is genuine. But if there is room to stretch, the DCT is the one most buyers are glad they chose six months in rather than wishing they had gone the other way.
