Yamaha launches first-ever Aerox Electric in India at Rs 2.82 lakh; offers 117 km range

Yamaha’s premium electric maxi-scooter gets dual removable batteries, four riding modes and a 117 km claimed range.

Yamaha has launched its new Aerox Electric in India, priced at Rs 2.82 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the priciest Yamaha product currently on sale in the Indian market. The electric maxi-scooter was first seen alongside the XSR155 motorcycle last year. It is Yamaha’s first premium electric scooter in India. For now, the Aerox Electric will only be available in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Pune, and Chennai.

The electric scooter is powered by a 9.5kW (12.9hp) motor that generates 48Nm of torque. It comes with two removable batteries, each with a capacity of 1.5kWh. The scooter has a certified IDC range of 117 km on a single charge. It is claimed to weigh 139 kg, which is about 13 kg heavier than the petrol-powered Yamaha Aerox 155.

The scooter is offered with different riding modes, including Eco, Standard, Power, and Boost, to suit various riding conditions. For braking, it features a front disc brake with ABS and a rear disc brake for improved safety.

In terms of design, the scooter retains the sporty styling of the petrol-powered model. It continues to feature twin LED headlamps, an LED taillamp, and maxi-scooter proportions. However, the most noticeable difference is in the cockpit, where it gets a modern full-colour TFT display replacing the older LCD instrument cluster.

With its performance-oriented package and premium pricing, the Yamaha Aerox Electric is aimed at customers looking for something more than a regular family electric scooter.
