Pre-bookings have started for the upcoming Yamaha R2 motorcycle at Rs 10,000. The motorcycle is expected to come with a 200-220cc engine and is expected to be positioned above the R15.
Pre-bookings have begun for the highly anticipated R2 supersport motorcycle ahead of its August 27 launch in India. Customers can pre-book the motorcycle for Rs 10,000, with the entire amount being refundable after September 5.
The R2 will be positioned above the R15 in Yamaha’s current India motorcycle lineup and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.20 lakh (ex-showroom).
Engine Specifications of Yamaha R2
Power output figures are not yet clear, but according to rumours, the R2 will produce around 25hp, putting it in the same league as the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR.
In addition to this, the bike is expected to be relatively light in terms of kerb weight. The KTM RC 200 has a kerb weight of 160kg, whereas the Hero Karizma XMR weighs 163.5kg. The Yamaha R15 V4, on the other hand, weighs just 141kg. Being relatively lightweight could therefore become a selling point for the bike.
Yamaha R2: Positioning and Competitors
Although it will not replace the Yamaha R15, the company’s lineup is expected to be streamlined. The range-topping R15 M could be phased out to make way for the new bike, while the previous-generation-based R15 S could also be discontinued.
Some of the rivals of the Yamaha R2 will include the KTM RC 200 and Hero Karizma XMR.
Made in India
The Yamaha R2 is set to be made in India and will also be exported to other countries. With bookings already underway, more information about the bike is expected to emerge ahead of its August 27 launch.
