Nissan returns to the C-segment SUV market with its new, butch-looking SUV.
Nissan’s India journey has been a bit of a hit and miss. While the company has seen the sub-four-meter SUV Magnite achieve good sales numbers, the Kicks did not manage to pull in the numbers the automaker expected. It was discontinued in 2023 due to poor sales. Now, the Japanese major has unveiled its Hyundai Creta rival, and it has surely made an impression. The Tekton is poised to capture the attention of aspirational Indian buyers.

The Tekton rides on Renault-Nissan’s global CMF-B platform, which also underpins the Duster. Production is set to take place at the Chennai plant in collaboration with Renault, where both models will be produced in the same factory. The vehicle’s design inspiration comes from the iconic Nissan Patrol, with a sculpted bonnet and C-shaped headlamps giving this SUV its family look. The front is dominated by connected LED DRLs, a wide grille, and squared-off wheel arches. Adding to the SUV appeal is the tall silhouette, functional roof rails, and a rear design with a sporty spoiler and connected taillamps.

Nissan’s new SUV aims to appeal to a wide audience, including those considering models like the Maruti Suzuki Victorious and Honda Elevate. While the Japanese automaker has been rolling out good products, a lack of wider customer touchpoints has put people off. Nissan will be addressing this by expanding its presence in India through a larger dealership network and broader product offerings in the coming year.
Nissan plans to officially launch the Tekton in India between April and June 2026. The Make-in-India Tekton will also be exported to other markets once production commences at the Oragadam plant in Chennai.
