The eighth-generation Elantra gets a bigger body, tech-loaded cabin, advanced ADAS and an upgraded hybrid powertrain.
Hyundai has officially revealed the eighth-generation Elantra at the Busan International Mobility Show 2026, unveiling a completely redesigned premium sedan that is bigger, loaded with technology, and more fuel-efficient than its predecessor. Rebranded as the Avante in the domestic Korean market, the new Elantra is unlikely to come to India as the automaker continues to focus on its SUV lineup.
Revolutionary New Design & Upgraded Platform
The new Elantra is significantly different from its predecessor in terms of design philosophy and features Hyundai’s latest ‘Art of Steel’ design concept.
Up front, the split headlights are connected by T-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights, while the separate LED headlight units are positioned low on the bumper. The redesign continues with a newly designed grille, a larger air dam, and plenty of black cladding for a more aggressive look. From the side, the car features flared wheel arches, flush door handles, new 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and a rear quarter glass.
At the rear, everything has been redesigned, including ducktail styling, T-shaped LED tail lamps, and a chunky bumper with diffuser-inspired elements. In terms of dimensions, the new Elantra is larger than its predecessor, with increases in both length and width.
Premium Interior Loaded With Technology
Inside, the Elantra now features a thoroughly modern cabin centred around Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect system. In terms of hardware, the car gets a massive 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen alongside a slim digital instrument display.
Other noteworthy features include two wireless charging pads, ambient lighting, a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, digital keys, an in-built dashcam, over-the-air updates, and USB ports capable of delivering up to 100W of power to connected devices. The new sedan also comes with power-adjustable front seats with memory settings, dual-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, automatic parking assistance, and an electronic parking brake.
Moreover, safety has been enhanced with ten airbags, an advanced ADAS suite, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2, and Pedal Misuse Safety Assist, which automatically applies the brakes if the wrong pedal is pressed accidentally.
Engine Variants
The eighth-generation Elantra continues with a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 149hp, alongside a revised 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain. The hybrid setup now produces 157hp, thanks to upgrades to the electric motor, battery pack, and transmission, along with regenerative braking and predictive energy management systems.
Unlikely To Launch In India
Hyundai’s new Elantra showcases the brand’s latest global design and technology direction. However, it is unlikely to be launched in India, as Hyundai’s priorities have shifted towards SUVs and EVs, which continue to enjoy strong demand in the Indian market.
