Kia Syros EV images leak ahead of reveal; set to offer up to 520km range

The upcoming electric SUV has been spotted undisguised for a TVC ahead of its launch at the end of July. It is equipped with the same battery pack and motor as the  Carens Clavis EV.

Kia is set to launch the Syros EV in India, and recently leaked images give a clearer look at the upcoming vehicle. As per dealers, it will be launched by the end of this month, and unofficial bookings have started at Rs 25,000. The Syros EV will be offered in the price range of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be Kia India’s second electric vehicle based on an ICE model.

Similarities with its ICE sibling, along with some EV-specific design cues

The Syros EV has largely retained the same design as its ICE counterpart, barring some minor tweaks. Up front, there’s a narrower grille along with a redesigned bumper.

When viewed from the side, the only difference in the electric version will be the newly designed dual-tone alloy wheels. Notably, the test car was spotted with partially extended front door handles, implying that it might be equipped with motorised flush door handles.

Coming to the rear, the most distinguishable difference would be the EV badging, while the vertically stacked LED tail-lights and sculpted bumper design will remain the same.

Feature-packed interior anticipated

The Syros EV is expected to be feature-packed, like the Kia Syros ICE version, with the interior featuring a dual-screen layout, along with physical buttons for climate and media controls.

Further, the electric SUV is expected to get paddle shifters to regulate the regenerative braking system, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, rear-seat ventilation, a dashcam, and ADAS.

Battery, range and competition

As per dealer reports, both the Syros EV and the Carens Clavis EV will be offered with similar battery options. Buyers will have a choice between a 42kWh battery pack and a larger 51.4kWh battery pack.

Battery Pack Claimed Range
42kWh 420km Est.
51.4kWh 520km Est.

With both battery options, the EV will come with a single electric motor mounted at the front, although its specifications remain unknown at this point.

The upcoming Kia Syros EV will compete against the Tata Nexon EV, MG Windsor EV, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV (expected), and the lower variants of the Hyundai Creta Electric in the compact electric SUV segment.
