JSW Motors’ first SUV will be based on the Jetour T2 and could get a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid powertrain.
JSW Motors’ upcoming SUV, based on the Jetour T2, has been spied testing in India, giving a closer look at the company’s first passenger vehicle. The SUV will be assembled at JSW Motors’ Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant in Maharashtra and is expected to feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Here are five key things you need to know.
Based On The Jetour T2
The upcoming JSW Motors SUV will be based on the Jetour T2 sold in international markets. The latest test mule features a design that closely resembles the global model, with similar taillights, roof rails and alloy wheels.
An Indian design patent filed earlier this year also suggests that the production SUV could retain most of the T2’s styling while replacing Jetour branding with JSW Motors’ own identity.
Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain
The SUV is expected to use the Jetour T2 i-DM’s plug-in-hybrid setup. It combines a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine with a 26.7kWh battery pack and two electric motors.
One electric motor drives the front wheels, while the second is integrated into the gearbox to assist with engine starts and provide additional torque during gear shifts.
381hp And 610Nm Expected
The global-spec Jetour T2 i-DM produces a combined 381hp and 610Nm, with power sent through a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).
The international model claims an NEDC-rated electric-only range of 139km, while its claimed combined range exceeds 1,000km. However, the exact output and range figures for the India-spec JSW SUV have not yet been confirmed.
Feature-Rich Cabin Expected
The latest spy shots do not reveal the interior, so the India-spec feature list remains unknown. However, the global Jetour T2 comes equipped with a large 15.6-inch touchscreen, 540-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof and Sony surround sound system.
Other features include ambient lighting, wireless charging and a powered tailgate. Some of these features could make their way onto the JSW Motors version.
Expected To Cost Around Rs 40 Lakh
The upcoming SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 38 lakh and Rs 40 lakh, ex-showroom. At this price, it will rival models such as the newly launched Kia Sorento, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron.
With its plug-in hybrid powertrain, the JSW SUV is expected to offer substantially higher power and torque than most conventional ICE SUVs in this price bracket.
JSW Motors had earlier been expected to launch the SUV around September 2026, but the company has not announced an official timeline. Recent reports suggest that its first passenger vehicle could instead be launched in January 2027.
