Hyundai Creta Electric Price Slashed by Rs 7 Lakh with New BaaS Scheme

Hyundai’s new Battery-as-a-Service program brings the Creta Electric’s starting price down to Rs 10.99 lakh, with battery leasing at Rs 3.90/km.

Hyundai Motor India has unveiled its first-ever Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme for the Creta Electric, bringing down the price of the SUV substantially. The company will now make it available at an introductory price of Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), while customers will have to pay Rs 3.90 per kilometre for the battery lease.

The launch of the new ownership system aims to reduce the price of electric vehicles by lowering the upfront purchase cost.

With the introduction of the BaaS plan, Hyundai becomes the seventh car manufacturer in India to offer such a plan, following companies like JSW MG Motor, Citroen, Kia, Maruti Suzuki, and Toyota.

While the standard price of the Hyundai Creta Electric ranges from Rs 18.03 lakh to Rs 24.70 lakh (ex-showroom), the BaaS plan reduces the starting price of the electric SUV by nearly Rs 7 lakh.

Instead of purchasing the battery upfront, customers will be charged Rs 3.90 for every kilometre travelled. Although Hyundai hasn’t yet disclosed the BaaS pricing for each variant, customers can spread the battery cost across their ownership tenure through a subscription plan that works like an EMI.

Since JSW MG Motor launched the BaaS concept with the Windsor EV in 2024, it has gained popularity in India. With Hyundai adopting the BaaS system, customers will find it easier to buy electric vehicles as it addresses the high upfront cost.

Apart from the battery subscription program, Hyundai has also introduced a convenience feature in the form of a built-in side step, which enables easier ingress and egress for passengers.

Furthermore, some selected models are now offered with a 7.4kW AC Wall Box Charger. Previously, the Creta Electric range was offered exclusively with an 11kW AC charger.

Battery, Performance, and Range

The Hyundai Creta Electric continues to be available with two battery packs. The smaller battery pack has a capacity of 42kWh and offers a claimed range of 420km, whereas the larger 51.4kWh battery offers a claimed range of 510km.

Both versions feature a front-mounted electric motor that powers the front wheels. The smaller battery pack produces 135hp, while the larger battery pack delivers 171hp.

Competition

The Hyundai Creta Electric is among the new breed of electric mid-size SUVs in India and competes with the likes of the Tata Sierra EV, Mahindra BE 6, and Maruti e Vitara. Also joining the segment shortly is the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. With the introduction of Battery-as-a-Service, the Creta Electric has become a more attractive proposition owing to its improved affordability.
