Tata’s bestselling compact SUV is set for a complete overhaul featuring fresh styling, a premium cabin, and petrol, diesel, CNG, EV, and possible hybrid options.
Tata Motors is gearing up to introduce an all-new generation of its popular Nexon compact SUV, which is expected to be launched in 2027. While the current Tata Nexon has received periodic updates, the next-generation model is set to be a complete overhaul, featuring a new platform, fresh styling, updated technology, and more features.
While there have been no sightings of the new Nexon during testing, reports suggest that the model will feature Tata’s latest design language, along with petrol, diesel, CNG, and electric powertrain options.
New platform and new styling

The biggest change for the new Nexon will be the introduction of Tata Motors’ new ARGOS platform, replacing the ageing X1 architecture. The current X1 platform traces its roots back to the 1998 Tata Indica, making the move to a new platform a significant development.
In terms of styling, the upcoming Nexon is expected to follow the design cues seen on Tata’s latest-generation SUVs. Features likely to be introduced include a slimmer front grille, vertically stacked LED headlamps, full-width LED daytime running lights, redesigned bumpers, and an overall more refined appearance.
Premium cabin and features
The Tata Nexon‘s cabin is expected to receive a complete overhaul with improved material quality and a more technology-focused layout. A large touchscreen infotainment system is expected to dominate the dashboard, accompanied by a premium audio system and an AR head-up display (HUD).
Other expected features include wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, connected car technology, cruise control, and automatic climate control.
Safety features and engine options
Safety is expected to remain one of Tata Motors’ biggest strengths, and the new Nexon is unlikely to be any different. Despite switching to a new platform, the SUV is expected to target another 5-star crash safety rating. It is also likely to feature six airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a Level 2 ADAS suite.
Under the hood, Tata is expected to retain its wide range of powertrain options. These are likely to include a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol CNG, a 1.5-litre diesel, and electric variants with 45 kWh and 55 kWh battery packs. Transmission options for the ICE models are expected to include a six-speed manual, a six-speed torque converter automatic, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. There are also rumours of a hybrid powertrain, although Tata Motors has not confirmed any such plans.
Launch and rivals
The new Tata Nexon is expected to be launched in 2027, although the absence of test vehicle sightings suggests that development is still at an early stage. Once launched, it will rival the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra XUV 3XO in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.
With its new platform, updated styling, premium cabin, and wider range of technology, the next-generation Nexon is expected to further strengthen Tata Motors’ position in India’s compact SUV segment while building on the success of its predecessor.
