2027 Mahindra Vision S Spied Testing In India; Rugged SUV Could Replace XUV3XO

Upcoming Mahindra compact SUV gets boxy styling, lifestyle-focused design and multiple powertrain options.

Mahindra will soon enter the highly competitive sub-4 metre SUV segment in India with the forthcoming Vision S. According to recent spy pictures emerging from the southern city of Chennai, the Vision S is a compact SUV aimed at lifestyle customers. The upcoming Mahindra will come with a blend of ruggedness and modernity when it arrives in 2027.

The upcoming model will serve as a replacement for the Mahindra XUV3XO.

Boxy Styling with Road Presence

As per the latest spy shots, we can see that the future SUV gets a distinct design. While most compact SUVs usually sport softer styling, the Vision S sticks to the traditional boxy styling associated with rugged SUVs.

Moreover, the squared wheel arches of this car are similar to those of the concept model presented by Mahindra.

Other important design aspects include flush door handles, body cladding around the wheel arches, and window and roof lines running parallel to each other. In addition, the grab handle on the A-pillar on the driver’s side points towards the adventurous nature of this SUV.

Vision S’s Rear Design

Mahindra Vision S Spied Testing Again

The rear end of the car has a side-opening tailgate that is common among larger and more powerful SUVs. Furthermore, the presence of a spare wheel on the tailgate gives it a tougher look while also creating extra space in the trunk.

Most elements still seem camouflaged, but the vertically arranged taillamps look closer to production and appear similar to those on the original prototype. As is typical of Mahindra vehicles, there will be a long list of aftermarket accessories offered by the automaker.

All-New NU_IQ Platform

The vehicle has been developed using Mahindra’s latest NU_IQ monocoque modular platform, which accommodates multiple engine configurations.

This allows the automaker the opportunity to introduce more variants of this SUV in the future by equipping it with petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric powertrains.

The Mahindra Vision S is anticipated to use the same engine options as the Mahindra XUV3XO. In its petrol version, the SUV could use the same three-cylinder, 1.2-litre turbocharged engine producing 130 PS and 230 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include six-speed manual and six-speed automatic units.

Powering the diesel variant will be the proven 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine developing 117 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Again, there are two transmission options: a six-speed manual gearbox and Mahindra’s proprietary AutoShift+ automated gearbox.

Possible Launch Date & Rivals

Mahindra is expected to launch the Vision S by the start of 2027. In that case, the SUV will face rivals from a whole new generation of lifestyle-oriented compact SUVs. One rival that comes to mind is the yet-unreleased production version based on Renault’s Bridger concept.

Considering its styling and platform capabilities, the Mahindra Vision S could create a unique segment of its own among compact SUVs.
