The fifth-generation Tucson gets a radical new look, a completely redesigned tech-heavy cabin and more space, while hybrid powertrain details are yet to be revealed.
Hyundai has revealed the fifth-generation Tucson in South Korea, marking a major departure from the outgoing SUV. The 2027 Tucson sports a more upright, boxier design, along with a larger footprint and a tech-heavy cabin. It will launch in global markets as a 2027 model.
Radical New Design
The biggest change is the Tucson’s exterior design. It follows Hyundai’s new design language, called the “Art of Steel,” which gives the SUV a much more squared-off look.
A broad horizontal LED light bar is mounted at the front, accompanied by vertically oriented lighting elements. The bonnet is flatter and higher, while the bumper has a layered design with a large lower air intake and silver accents.
The side profile shows squared wheel arches, strong cladding and sharply defined body panels. At the rear, another full-width LED light bar connects the vertical tail-lamps, with TUCSON lettering running across the tailgate.
Hyundai has also unveiled the rugged Tucson XRT, which features a unique grille, larger skid plates, black cladding and XRT-specific alloy wheels.
More Space, Bigger Dimensions
The new Tucson is 4,700mm long, 1,905mm wide and 1,685mm tall, and has a 2,785mm wheelbase. That makes it 60mm longer and 40mm wider than the old car, while its wheelbase has been stretched by 30mm.
The increased dimensions are expected to improve cabin space. Hyundai says rear-seat headroom is up by 29mm, while the rear doors now open to 83 degrees for easier access.
Completely New Inside
The cabin has also seen a major transformation. The new Tucson ditches the integrated screen layout for a large central touchscreen in portrait mode, running Hyundai’s Pleos infotainment system.
The redesigned cabin also features a slim digital driver’s display in front of the driver, along with a new squared-off two-spoke steering wheel. Below the floating centre console, there is additional storage space, while ambient lighting runs across the dashboard.
Expected Hybrid Powertrain
Full powertrain specifications have not yet been revealed by Hyundai. The new Tucson is expected to carry over combustion and electrified options, depending on the market, including an updated 1.6-litre hybrid system. Petrol and plug-in hybrid versions may also be available.
India Launch Not Yet Confirmed
Hyundai has not revealed when it will launch the fifth-generation Tucson in India. The new SUV would represent a significant design and technology upgrade over the current model if it comes to India. Its boxier styling could also hint at Hyundai’s design direction for the next-generation Creta, which is expected to arrive in India in 2027.
