It gets a smaller 349cc engine aimed at cutting costs while retaining strong performance and premium flat-track styling
After launching the Tiger 600 in India last month, Triumph Motorcycles has now launched the Tracker 400 in India with a reduced size engine. The Tracker 400 has been unveiled in the Indian markets priced at Rs 2.46 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle gets a new body styling, which will give it an advantage against the competition as well as help in achieving tax benefits due to reduced engine capacity.
Design
The Tracker 400 has been given the flat-track styled bodywork in order to differentiate it from the rest of Triumph’s bikes in this category. The bike has a 13-litre boxy fuel tank and a minimalistic body styling, which includes the fly screen, side panels similar to number boards, and colour-coordinated seat cowl. The rear of the bike looks similar to the Thruxton 400 and the bike comes in various colour options.
Equipment
On the feature side of things, the Tracker 400 borrows its equipment from the 400cc models sold by Triumph in the international markets. Some of the features include full LED headlamps, semi-digital instrumentation, and other rider assistance equipment. In essence, it doesn’t bring any new features and maintains a balance of contemporary technology and vintage styling. All of which will contribute to its practicality while maintaining the premium status.
Engine & Performance
The Tracker 400 is fitted with a 349cc single-cylinder engine that was based on the 398cc engine of the company’s other models. Even though the engine capacity is lower, it still manages to produce 40 hp of maximum power output and 32 Nm of torque. As such, it ranks among the more powerful 350cc motorcycles on sale in the country. The motor is coupled to a 6-speed transmission.
Suspension and Brakes
The suspension system consists of USD front forks and a monoshock for the rear, akin to that seen in other motorcycles of the same 400cc line up from Triumph. The motorcycle has 17 inches wheels at the front and the rear, which have specially designed tyres for better traction. Brakes are provided by dual channel ABS disc brakes.
Price and Market Positioning

Priced at 2.46 lakh rupees (ex-showroom), the Tracker 400 sits in between the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 of Triumph. It costs a little more than the Speed 400 but is priced lower than the Scrambler. This distinctive motorcycle should appeal to those customers who look forward to purchasing a premium motorcycle from Triumph India.
