The Tata Sierra has finally been tested by Bharat NCAP, and it has emerged from these tests with a 5-star rating. Tata has made safety a core part of its brand identity over the last decade, and most of its current models (depending on age) have secured 4- to 5-star safety ratings.
The Sierra’s near-perfect scores further strengthen Tata Motors’ reputation as one of India’s safety leaders.
Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): 31.14/32 points
When talking about safety ratings, we often look at the overall score, but there is a more detailed breakdown as well. When it comes to Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), the Tata Sierra delivered an impressive performance, scoring 31.14 out of 32 points, securing a full 5-star rating.
The results were evaluated based on protection provided to critical regions of the body. Areas such as the chest, knees, and tibias were rated as good to adequate, while the feet received a ‘good’ rating.
Child Occupant Protection (COP): 44.73/49 points
This is an area where Tata has shown improvement, as older cars and crossover models typically achieved a respectable 4-star rating in COP. The Sierra SUV has now earned a 5-star rating here as well, scoring strongly in crash performance tests.
It achieved a perfect 12/12 score in the Child Restraint System (CRS) installation test, including stable ISOFIX seat mounting, ensuring strong protection for young occupants.
Structural Integrity Rating
In crash testing, the Sierra scored 15.14/16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a perfect 16/16 in the side movable barrier test, which simulates a side impact from another vehicle.
Other notable results include successfully clearing the side pole impact test. These results highlight strong structural integrity and excellent protection for occupants across multiple crash scenarios.
Active and Passive Safety
Apart from its strong structural safety performance, the Tata Sierra is equipped with a host of active safety systems that help prevent accidents using technology such as ESC, ABS with EBD, traction control, ADAS features, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a 360-degree camera, and parking sensors.
The SUV also features a comprehensive list of passive safety systems, including airbags, seatbelts, ISOFIX mounts, and a high-strength bodyshell designed to absorb and distribute crash energy, protecting occupants during a collision.
Conclusion
The 2026 Tata Sierra brings an iconic nameplate back to Indian roads. Buyers will have a wide range of engine options to choose from, including naturally aspirated petrol, turbo-petrol, and diesel powertrains.
The entry-level Smart+ variant is expected to start at ₹11.49 lakh for petrol and ₹12.99 lakh for diesel, while the EV version of the Sierra is expected to launch by March 2026.
With top-tier safety scores and multiple powertrain options, the Sierra could set a new benchmark in the midsize SUV segment.
