Nissan Tekton expert review.
What Is the Nissan Tekton?
Co-developed alongside the new Renault Duster, the fresh Nissan Tekton has a modern platform that takes the brunt of poor roads without transferring the impact from them to its occupants. It measures 4,349 mm in length and 1,815 mm in width, and it sits with an upright stance and sharp LED lighting.
This vehicle is Nissan’s re-entry into India’s fiercely contested mid-size SUV segment. We will be examining the T280 variant, the one with the 1.3L four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Nissan offers this powertrain from the Acenta trim to the top-tier Tekna+, and you can choose between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic DCT.
Who Is the Nissan Tekton For?
If buyers want traditional SUV ruggedness combined with a highly refined turbo-petrol engine, they can check out the Nissan Tekton. You can also consider it if you find the suspension on rivals like the Hyundai Creta or Kia Seltos too soft for your frequent weekend trips. This vehicle feels like a distinctly tougher alternative to them, and at the same time, it doesn’t feel like a commercial pickup either.
It is a tech-heavy alternative to its Renault sibling as well. Families who need one dependable vehicle for everything, whether it be daily office commutes through metro traffic, grocery runs or fully loaded interstate holidays, will appreciate the T280’s deep boot space and confident overtaking power. And it has an unladen ground clearance of 212 mm.
How Is the Nissan Tekton Inside?
The vehicle’s cabin feels airy and bright, partly thanks to the electric panoramic sunroof standard from the N-Connecta variant upwards. The 2,657 mm wheelbase, meanwhile, frees up a lot of rear legroom. Two adults will find the bench quite comfortable, though seating a third may introduce some shoulder rubbing.
The Tekna trims introduce 6-way power adjustment for the driver and ventilated front seats. The Tekna+ goes further, adding elements like luxurious tri-tone burgundy, beige and rose gold upholstery. Practicality is also a major draw, with the boot offering around 700 litres of volume up to the roofline (capacity up to the parcel shelf is 518 litres). It can easily fit a baby stroller, two heavy suitcases and multiple soft bags.
While lower trims use a standard 10.1-inch screen, the Tekna+ offers full Google built-in functionality. Google Maps, Assistant and the Play Store can run natively on the screen, saving your phone battery during long trips. Other storage space is decent with a cooled armrest, though the broad centre console slightly eats into driver knee room.
What About the Nissan Tekton Engine?
The T280 has a 1.3L four-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol engine that generates 161 bhp and a hefty 280 Nm of torque. You can pair this motor with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed wet-clutch DCT, which includes an E-Shifter and steering-mounted paddle shifters.
To maintain high fuel efficiency in the Tekton, you will have to keep a disciplined right foot. Heavy stop-and-go city driving will drop real-world figures to around 9 kmpl to 11 kmpl. However, if you cruise steadily at 90 kmph on the highways, you can unlock a realistic mixed mileage of 13 kmpl to 14 kmpl. The 50-litre fuel tank will let you cover nearly 600 km between fill-ups.
How Does the Nissan Tekton Drive?
On the move, the Tekton T280 feels eager and planted. The turbo spools quickly, offering its 280 Nm punch from just 2,000 rpm. You do not have to rev hard or wait for downshifts to pass long trucks on state highways; a simple push of the accelerator returns an immediate surge.
The 6-speed DCT remains relatively smooth most of the time, though it can honestly feel a bit hesitant when crawling at 5 kmph in heavy traffic. But once the vehicle climbs past 20 kmph, the shifts become seamless.
Ride quality is the Nissan’s most important asset. Instead of crashing into sharp potholes, the Tekton absorbs impacts with a muted thud. The 18-inch diamond-cut alloys look premium, and the tyres offer enough sidewall to cushion most imperfections. At triple-digit speeds, the SUV remains stable without the floaty sensation you may feel in some softer Korean alternatives.
Is the Nissan Tekton Safe?
Nissan has thought about occupant protection heavily. It is structurally secure, has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, and even its lower Acenta trims get traction control, electronic stability control and hill start assist. Braking performance is solid, with disc brakes on all four wheels for the DCT models and upper Tekna trims.
The Tekna offers a Level 2 ADAS suite which has 15 active features like autonomous emergency braking, blind spot warning and adaptive cruise control. The flagship Tekna+ adds a 3D intelligent around-view monitor, which gives the driver a crystal-clear, top-down perspective. It can be considered an important tool when parking in cramped basement spots without scraping the alloys.
Should You Buy the Nissan Tekton?
Priced from roughly ?10.49 lakh to ?18.59 lakh (ex-showroom), the Nissan Tekton T280 undercuts the turbo-petrol variants of the Seltos and Creta while offering a compliant suspension system and Google-assisted technology. It’s a powerful, tech-forward family SUV that you’ll like if your driving is mostly through broken city roads and you want high ground clearance without giving up turbo-petrol performance.
The N-Connecta variant may feel like the best value-for-money trim given its well-sorted feature kit, but the Tekna is worth the premium if you want ventilated seats and ADAS. The main compromises of this vehicle, though, are its hesitant low-speed DCT crawl and a cabin width that’s for four adults at best, factors that you’ll have to keep in mind while visiting a Nissan showroom.
