Rugged military-spec ATV features armored bodywork, tactical upgrades and battlefield-ready hardware
In a strong showcase of indigenous engineering, Mahindra has unveiled a battlefield-ready all-terrain vehicle (ATV) based on the Mahindra Thar Roxx platform for the Indian Army and security agencies.
Shared by Anand Mahindra, the rugged military-spec vehicle highlights Mahindra’s capability to transform civilian platforms into highly capable combat-ready machines.
Desi Humvee Inspiration
The vehicle’s design and purpose clearly draw inspiration from the iconic Humvee used by the US Armed Forces. Much like the American military vehicle, this ATV prioritizes ruggedness, practicality and battlefield capability over comfort and luxury.
Built For Battlefield Conditions
The ATV comes equipped with a winch, gun mount provisions, dual spare wheels, underbody armor and a jerrycan holder. An armored windshield along with an open-body layout featuring roll cages further enhances its tactical appearance.
Reports also suggest that the vehicle is airdrop-capable, highlighting its ability to operate in rapid deployment and high-risk combat scenarios.
Heavily Modified Thar Roxx Base
The underpinnings appear to be based on the Mahindra Thar Roxx, extensively reworked to suit military requirements. The body has been stripped down, reinforced and raised to improve off-road capability while also allowing multiple tactical mounting points.
Engine And Drivetrain Possibilities
While Mahindra has not revealed technical specifications yet, the military ATV could use either a 2.2-litre diesel engine or a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol motor. A specially configured 4WD system is expected as standard for combat operations.
Petrol-powered variants may also be preferred for deployment in high-altitude regions where diesel engines can face operational limitations.
Designed To Conquer Extreme Terrain
The ATV appears engineered for extreme environments ranging from sandy deserts to rugged mountainous terrain. Massive off-road tyres, reinforced bumpers and high ground clearance further strengthen its battlefield-ready credentials.
Strengthening Mahindra Defence Portfolio
Mahindra Defence already has an expanding military vehicle portfolio that includes the Mahindra Armado, Mahindra Marksman and Mahindra Rakshak. This new ATV further reinforces the company’s reputation for building versatile combat and tactical vehicles for modern warfare.
What remains especially fascinating is whether this rugged desi Humvee could eventually find its way onto civilian roads or Bollywood screens — much like the original Humvee did after gaining worldwide popularity through Hollywood films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
