Mahindra Chakan Plant Rolls Out 3 Millionth Vehicle; BE 6 Marks Historic Milestone

Mahindra’s Pune facility reaches the three-million production mark, with the all-electric BE 6 becoming the landmark vehicle.

The Chakan manufacturing facility of Mahindra & Mahindra has been operational since December 2009, and over time, its manufacturing pace has increased significantly. While the first one million vehicles were manufactured in just under nine years, the second one million vehicles were manufactured in just under two and a half years.

Covering an area of 657 acres, the integrated manufacturing facility manufactures 19 models including the Scorpio N, Thar Roxx and Bolero to name a few.and more than 450 variants of Mahindra’s passenger vehicle, electric vehicle, and commercial vehicle range.

The factory has about 1,500 robots, 98 percent automation in the body shop, seven multi-model assembly lines, and AI-based safety surveillance systems.

Speaking on the occasion of this achievement, R Velusamy, President – Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “Completion of the manufacture of the three-millionth vehicle, the BE 6, at the Chakan plant is a proud moment in our manufacturing legacy at Mahindra. This is also an indication of the increasing confidence of our customers and the relentless dedication of our people and partners, as reflected in our reduction of manufacturing time from 107 months for our first million vehicles to just 27 months for the next one.”

Additionally, this factory has a strong focus on sustainability. Over 50 percent of the factory’s energy consumption comes from renewable energy, while all EV manufacturing processes for the BE 6, XEV 9E and XEV 9S operate using renewable energy. It is a water-positive facility that has been awarded Zero Waste to Landfill status, and it manufactures and ships Mahindra vehicles to overseas markets, including South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
