Upcoming KTM adventure motorcycle could deliver up to 65 bhp and may be manufactured in India by Bajaj Auto.

The upcoming KTM 490 Adventure has been spotted testing overseas, revealing a new middleweight adventure motorcycle prototype featuring an all-new engine platform from KTM. The prototype confirms that KTM is developing a new twin-cylinder platform that is expected to underpin future Duke, RC and Enduro models.
Notably, this is the second motorcycle from the new platform to surface in spy shots, with a test mule believed to be the upcoming KTM 490 Duke also spotted recently. Although KTM has not officially revealed specifications or displacement details, speculation suggests that the upcoming 490 Adventure could produce around 60 bhp.
Development of a New Parallel-Twin Platform

With the arrival of the KTM 490 range, the brand is expected to replace its KTM 690 single-cylinder lineup sold in select international markets. Unlike the current 390 range, which uses a 349cc single-cylinder engine, the new 490 series is likely to feature a parallel-twin motor.
Power figures for the new engine have not yet been disclosed, but estimates indicate an output of around 60–65 bhp.
Recent spy shots also suggest that development is still in the early stages, as the prototype was seen fitted with testing equipment and exposed wiring.
Adventure-Focused Design and Hardware

At first glance, the test mule resembles the styling of the current KTM 390 Adventure. The headlight setup and fuel tank design appear closely related to KTM’s existing adventure lineup.
However, KTM is expected to revise the design further before launch, with updates to the bodywork, graphics and aerodynamics likely during the development phase.
The motorcycle appears to feature long-travel inverted WP front forks along with a WP rear monoshock setup. Single disc brakes are visible at both ends, while the rear swingarm design looks distinct from KTM’s current offerings.
Tech and Features

The prototype also seems to use the same TFT instrument console found on KTM’s latest-generation 390 Adventure models. Like most modern KTM motorcycles, the new Adventure is expected to offer multiple electronic rider aids, including riding modes, ABS and smartphone connectivity.

Although the test mule has not yet been spotted in India, the new platform is expected to play an important role in the Indian market. KTM shares a strong manufacturing and development partnership with Bajaj Auto, which already produces several KTM motorcycles in India.
Production of the new motorcycles is expected to take place at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan facility in Maharashtra to keep pricing competitive for both domestic and international markets.
Once launched, the KTM 490 Adventure is expected to rival models such as the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, CFMoto 450MT and the upcoming BMW F 450 GS, along with future mid-size offerings from Aprilia and Kawasaki.
India’s premium motorcycle segment continues to grow steadily, and KTM’s upcoming twin-cylinder motorcycles could become an important part of this expanding category.
