2026 Kia Seltos Launched in India – 5 Things You Need to Know

December 14, 2025 Admin

The compact SUV segment in India is highly competitive, with over 13 different models from nine manufacturers competing for space in buyers’ garages. The usual suspects include the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, Honda Elevate and Volkswagen Taigun, all vying for attention. The second-generation Kia Seltos has been unveiled ahead of its January 2026 market debut, bringing significant updates to remain competitive in this overcrowded segment.

1. Design – Highlight

The new Seltos adopts Kia’s latest global design language, “Opposites United,” and brings its internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in line with its EV counterparts. The front has been reimagined with a larger tiger-nose grille and vertical LED DRLs that integrate neatly into the bumper design.

The rear follows current industry trends with connected LED tail lamps. Overall, the SUV looks modern, with cleaner lines and a more slab-sided design that aligns it with the rest of Kia’s global portfolio.

2. Interior – Highlight

Inside, the cabin has been modernised and takes cues from the Syros and the updated Carens. The dashboard is dominated by dual 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. While the touchscreens are smooth and responsive, Kia has retained a good number of physical buttons for functions such as climate control on the centre console.

With the Seltos growing in size, cabin space has also increased, particularly for rear passengers. The rear seats now get a reclining function, improving overall comfort. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and ambient lighting.

3. Engine – Highlight

This is the area with the fewest changes, as the powertrain options are carried over from the previous generation. The new Seltos continues with the familiar 1.5-litre engines.

The naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine produces 115 bhp and 144 Nm of torque and is paired with either a six-speed manual or a CVT. The turbo-petrol variant uses the same 1.5-litre motor but delivers 160 bhp and 253 Nm of torque, with transmission options including a clutchless six-speed manual (iMT) and a seven-speed DCT.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine will also be offered, producing 116 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. All engines drive the front wheels, with no all-wheel-drive option available.

4. Dimension – Highlight

The Kia Seltos has grown noticeably compared with its predecessor, making it feel closer to SUVs from a segment above, such as the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. The overall length is around 4,460 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,690 mm, resulting in a roomier cabin.

Boot capacity stands at around 447 litres. While this is adequate, it is not segment-leading.

5. Safety Features – Highlights

Safety has traditionally been a strong area for Korean manufacturers, and the new Seltos introduces Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Other features include a head-up display, a 360-degree camera system and multiple airbags. A crash-test safety rating is yet to be announced, though expectations are high.

Bookings for the new Kia Seltos are currently open, with official prices set to be announced on 2 January 2026.
